A successful and challenging Army career begins with your performance on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery.
How you perform on this test, which consists of a series of timed aptitude tests, can mean the difference between having a job you enjoy or feeling stuck in during your enlistment. Furthermore, the results of your tests may determine whether or not you are accepted into the Army at all.
Here’s what you should know:
After taking the ASVAB, you will be given a report with your results. The percentages on a scale from one to 99 in the report indicate how you compare to other participants rather than how many questions you answered correctly.
A score of 70 percent, for example, indicates that your scores were in the 70th percentile when compared to those who participated in the test, or that your scores were in the top 30% of those who took the test.
Your Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) score, as well as your scores in a variety of ASVAB subtest categories, will be displayed on the report, including General Science; Arithmetic Reasoning; Electronics Information; Paragraph Comprehension; Mathematics Knowledge; Auto & Shop Information; Word Knowledge; Mechanical Comprehension; and Assembling Objects.
On this website, we’ve prepared for you thousands of Army ASVAB practice test questions that are categorized into specific ASVAB topics to help you easily pass the exam. Let’s give it a try!
Army ASVAB AFQT Score
Your AFQT score determines whether you are eligible to join the Army. The AFQT score is calculated by your performance on the ASVAB tests in the following areas: paragraph comprehension, word knowledge, mathematics knowledge, and arithmetic reasoning.
Currently, the Army requires a minimum AFQT score of 31. However, the Army has been known to grant waivers for those with scores as low as 26 on occasion.
To be eligible for enlistment incentives, such as bonuses, you must score at least a 50 on the AFQT.
ASVAB Army Line Scores
Following the ASVAB, the Army converts your results into ten calculations known as “Army line scores.” The line scores assist the Army in determining which Army jobs, or Military Occupational Specialties (MOS), you are qualified for. Clerical, combat, electronics, surveillance, and communications, general maintenance, general technical, field artillery, mechanical maintenance, operators and food, and skilled technicians are the categories.
- CL — Clerical: VE+AR+MK
- CO — Combat: AR+CS+AS+MC
- EL — Electronics: GS+AR+MK+EI
- FA — Field artillery: AR+CS+MK+MC
- GM — General maintenance: GS+AS+MK+EI
- GT — General technical: VE+AR
- MM — Mechanical maintenance: NO+AS+MC+EI
- OF — Operators and food: VE+NO+AS+MC
- SC — Surveillance and communications: VE+AR+AS+MC
- ST — Skilled technical: GS+VE+MK+MC
