What our users are saying

Over 50,000 aspiring American candidates use Australian Citizenship monthly

January 26, 1949, saw the introduction of the idea of Australian citizenship. All Australian-born people were regarded as British subjects before this time. Generally, a person becomes an Australian citizen through birth, ancestry, or conferral.

Citizenship-related decisions fall under the purview of the Department of Home Affairs.

Australian citizens are considered residents of Australia and are eligible for concession cards and social security benefits if they meet the standard qualifying and pay-ability requirements. Citizens of Australia are not subject to the NARWP. Nonetheless, some pensions may be subject to qualifying residence requirements.

Australian Citizenship Eligibility Requirements

When applying for Australian citizenship, those over the age of 18 typically need to:

  • Possess a completed citizenship test (unless they are older than 60);
  • Be a resident of Australia permanently at the time of application;
  • Fulfill the residence criterion at the time of decision;
  • Be of good moral character;
  • Be likely to live in Australia or continue to dwell there.

Australian Citizenship Exam's Passing Score

To pass the exam, you have to meet all the demands:

  • Respond to 20 multiple-choice questions;
  • Answer all 5 Australian Values questions correctly;
  • Score at least 75% overall.

Overview of Australian Citizenship Exam

For the majority of candidates seeking Australian citizenship by conferral, the citizenship test is a requirement.

The following will be demonstrated if you pass the citizenship test:

  • A working mastery of the English language; an awareness of the requirements for becoming an Australian citizen;
  • A sufficient understanding of Australia and the rights and obligations of citizenship;
  • An awareness of and dedication to the freedom, respect, and equality that underpin Australian ideals.

The test is a crucial component of making sure you are capable of making the most of your possibilities in Australia and participating fully in the community as a citizen. It encourages harmonious social relationships and effective community integration.

To be allowed to sit the test, candidates have to:

  • Be a permanent resident of Australia;
  • Verify your identification to the department when registering for the test;
  • Consent to having your photo taken by the department or submit one yourself.

The test of citizenship is free of charge. The test is included in the citizenship application fee you paid.

Australian Citizenship Practice Test Tool: What’s Involved?

To help you pass the real exam with flying colors, we have created a complete roadmap that is suitable for a variety of figures (at different levels). The roadmap will be like this one:

Step 1: Diagnostic Test

Firstly, test takers begin taking the diagnostic test.

Why do they need to take the diagnostic test? Yeah, as you may have learned, the primary purpose of a diagnostic assessment is to gather sufficient information about the test-taker's prior knowledge of the subject. This data is then used to generate a roadmap that fills in the gaps in knowledge. Furthermore, it enables test-takers to identify their areas of strength and weakness and the subjects they need to focus on more. They also get the opportunity to address any confusion before starting a learning exercise. Concentrating on the content that needs to be learned ultimately enhances the learning process' effectiveness and efficiency.

What’s involved in it? Normally, a series of 30 questions is involved in the diagnostic test. Each question is attached to a topic tag at the head of the page. With these, test-takers will determine which topic they make mistakes on and need to pay more attention to during the learning process. You are also informed of the correct answer immediately and given a detailed explanation after finishing each item. Moreover, the percentage of people who make the same mistake as you will also appear. Please be aware that the time for each item is limited to 1 minute. That puts the same time pressure on you as the real test, so it helps you get accustomed to the exam format.

The overall results at the end of the test will tell you more. You will acknowledge the proportion of both correct and incorrect answers that evaluate your prior knowledge about the Australian Citizenship test.

Step 2: Learning

This learning section is divided into 4 sections, each of which covers a topic that will appear on the real test.

  • Australia and Its People
  • Australian Values
  • Australia’s Democratic Beliefs, Rights, and Liberties
  • Australian Government and Law

Each section comprises a different number of parts, depending on the amount of knowledge it covers. Notice that you have to answer all questions correctly to get permission for the next part. Hence, you are allowed to do it again more than once, and the false questions will automatically return until you correct all of them.
Again, this is the platform where you are learning. Don’t hesitate to perform time and time again until you get a thorough comprehension of all the questions in each topic. Once you are confident in your knowledge, let’s take the mock test.

Step 3: Full Test

There is a certain number of practice tests synthesized in this “full test” section. In each test, we design three different test levels. You can commence with the easy-level test in advance. With this test mode, we do not set a time, so you can think deeply and find the correct answer. At the same time, we also allow you to immediately see the answers to each question and specific explanations. Coming to the medium test level, you will start getting accustomed to the time setting when you must complete questions within the allotted time. When time is integrated, you need to modify your testing strategies and think of a way to cope with time pressure. Consequently, the speed of reading and thinking has to be improved. The ultimate level—the hardest one—challenges you more than the first two, as you only have specific seconds to deal with every single item. The shorter the time set, the harder the test is. Trust me! If you are patient and take one single step following our roadmap, it will change your results in the future.

Australian Citizenship FAQs

What kind of questions will be conducted on the citizenship examination?

You must possess a basic understanding of the English language, as well as sufficient knowledge of Australia and the rights and obligations of citizenship, in order to take the test.

Which documents must I submit?

Both paper applications and online applications completed using an IMMI account are accepted. Identification documents proving your identity, such as a passport or driver's license, must be presented. These documents must also include your current residential address, birth name, date of birth, and gender, as well as your photograph and signature (such as a birth certificate or passport). You will need to present documentary proof if you have changed your name.

Additionally, you will need to present an Identity Declaration that has been signed by an authorized official. Filling out Form 1195 is required for this. Not only must that individual fill out and sign the declaration, but they also need to sign the back of a picture of you.

In addition, a Police Clearance certificate from each nation you have been in for a minimum of a year since receiving your Permanent Australia visa must be presented.

How much does it actually cost?

The application fee for a certificate of Australian citizenship is $265. If you are replacing the certificate as a result of a natural disaster that is on the IMMI natural disaster list, there is no application charge. Within eighteen months following the event date (disaster), you must apply for the certificate.

How long does processing take?

The Department needs between seven and twenty days to process an application for a citizenship certificate. The Department will print and mail you the certificate after it has been processed. Up to ten days may pass before the certificate is mailed to you.

Who should obtain an Australian Citizenship Certificate, and why?

Since citizenship laws have changed frequently, it is advised that anyone who feels they are an Australian citizen have a copy of their Australian citizenship certificate. In certain cases, people who think they are Australian citizens may not be, even though they were born in Australia or have Australian parents.

For instance, an individual:

  • May have lost Australian citizenship as a result of laws that were in effect at the time;
  • May have lost Australian citizenship as a result of laws about dual citizenship prior to 4 April 2002;
  • May not have been Australian citizens even though they were born there;
  • May never granted Australian citizenship despite being adopted by Australian citizens when they were young;
  • May never included in their parents' Australian citizenship by conferral applications when they were young.

Final Word

Practicing before taking any exam is extremely necessary. Finding a reputable and effective learning source is even more important. Each choice you make can determine success or failure. Trust me! Our Australian Citizenship practice exam will accompany you on the path to passing the real Australian Citizenship exam.
