The mental development of older adults (age 65–79) and elders (age 80 and above) is characterized by being active learners and thinkers, but with declines in memory. In the oldest years, confusion may signal illness and/or medication problems. Older adults do continue to learn, but are not at their peak with regard to problem solving due to some declines associated with age.
