Question:

Ligaments are structures in the body that connect __________.

A bone to bone
explanation

Ligaments connect bone to bone, in order to limit the joint range of motion and increase joint stability. They are made up of bundles of dense regular connective tissue that gradually strengthen with use. So they adapt to repeated stresses on the body, as with sports conditioning. Ligaments will stretch a little (very little) and return back to their original length, but will not return if stretched past their limit.
