Question:
Complaints of feeling shaky and sweaty are indications of hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar. The LPN’s first action would be to confirm this by obtaining the patient’s blood glucose level. While notifying the RN and offering simple carbohydrates are appropriate actions, they should be done after obtaining the glucose level. Insulin would be contraindicated in the case of hypoglycemia because it would make the patient’s blood sugar lower.
