Question:
Naegele’s Rule is used to calculate expected delivery dates for pregnant women. To calculate the date with the information given, one must subtract 3 months from the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP), and then add 7 days and, if necessary, follow through to the next calendar year. If the woman’s LMP was August 12th, the date 3 months prior would be May 12th. Add seven days to get May 19th. Knowing that the woman became pregnant in August of 2018, the infant would then be expected in 2019. So the child’s expected delivery date would be May 19th, 2019. The number of pregnancies or living children a woman has does not impact the calculation for expected delivery date.
