What is the FIRST priority in preventing transmission of infections?

Handwashing remains the single most important way to avoid spreading and getting infections. However, too often nurses do not practice good handwashing techniques and do not teach patients and families how to perform proper hand hygiene. Nurses need to wash their hands before and after every patient encounter.
