This course meets or exceeds the DSHS minimum hours and content requirements based on the National Standard Curriculum core competencies.

Texas paramedic training is a total of 1230 hours, which includes:

  • EMS130 or EMS135 – Didactic Experience
  • 150 hours of online co-requisite courses
  • 480 hours of classroom lectures and hands-on skills
  • EMS136 – Clinical and Field Experience
  • 240 hours of hospital experiences
  • 240 hours of EMS experiences
  • 120 hours of Capstone EMS Internship with 20 team leads

The program’s maximum number of participants is 24. During classroom lectures, TEEX maintains a ratio of 1 instructor to 24 students; 1 instructor to 8 students in the skills lab; and 1 preceptor to 1 student during field excursions.

Students who complete the program’s co-requisites, didactic requirements (must pass all skills tests, unit exams, summative exams, and final exams), and clinical and capstone components are eligible to receive a course completion certificate and sit for the National Registry Cognitive and Psychomotor exams.

Classroom lectures, skills, clinical internship rotations, and field internship rotations are all part of our Paramedic NightClass (EMS130 and EMS136), which is followed by a two-week capstone internship. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, classes run from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. A detailed class schedule is provided after registration is complete.

Please note: Background checks are required for clinical and field rotations. Certification by the Texas Department of State Health Services or other certifying entity is independent of the TEEX EMS program and its training.
