How to become an EMT in PA?
You must satisfy the following general qualifications before looking for EMT training in Pennsylvania:
- Students must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or GED in order to become EMT in PA. Exceptions can be made when it comes to age. Students can start the EMT program at Central Pennsylvania Community College as young as 16, but they must have a parent or legal guardian present for the first class session.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- The ability to read at a 10th-grade level or better is required. Placement scores (from exams such as ASSET, COMPASS, or ACCUPLACER, which measure one’s academic ability in English, arithmetic, and reading) are occasionally requested of prospective students.
- CPR certification is required and must be maintained throughout the program.
- EMT students will be required to show proof of the following vaccinations: Hepatitis B Vaccination Series, Measles, Mumps, Rubella Vaccination/Illness You’ll almost certainly need the Tdap vaccination to protect against Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis; Chicken Pox (vaccinated two times or positive titer); a negative Tuberculosis skin PPD test (within the past 12 months); a negative Chest X-ray (within the last 12 months); and a Flu shot (within the last 12 months).
- A drug test and a criminal background check are required.
- EMTs must also be able to lift, carry, and balance a minimum of 125 pounds evenly distributed in addition to these standards. (250 pounds with assistance).

In Pennsylvania, you are required to take the EMR National Registry exam, the EMT National Registry exam, the AEMT National Registry exam, the Paramedic National Registry exam. EMT training online – Pennsylvania
The goal of online training is to allow students to work at their own speed. It also makes it easier for students who have children or work to integrate schoolwork into their schedules.

Requirements for the course:
Students will need access to a reliable portable computer/laptop with;
- A current operating system
- Active and strong internet connection
- A flash player
- An email account.
Students must be able to create user accounts, use a web-based learning platform, send and receive emails, attach and read attachments, and send and receive emails. To facilitate study, students may be required to complete a brief computer course.
Before commencing the course, students must pre-register by filling out the registration form and paying a $225 non-refundable deposit.
Participants who finish the course satisfactorily will be qualified to sit for the NREMT certification test for both Pennsylvania and national certification.
